Plein Air and Studio Painting Project
I am excited to announce I have been approved for an arts grant for which I will be painting 20 paintings from life and 20 studio paintings within the next year.
I would like to thank the Castlegar Arts Council, Columbia Basin Trust, The Kootenay Gallery and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance for this opportunity.
I started a little sketch today and it wasn't as stressful as I expected. This experience will help me to explore values, true colors as I see them and sharpen my technique. I think I'm already broadening my skills.
Last year I was really excited to be able to see a lovely painting by the amazing Joaquin Sirolla at the Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane Washington.
Joaquin Sorolla (27 February 1863 – 10 August 1923) was a Spanish painter, born in Valencia, who painted beautiful portaits, landcapes and monumental works of social and historical themes.
I was amazed to see his loose brushstrokes and use of wet on wet paint. There was an underpainting wash with loose strokes of intense color on top. I aspire to be able to lay my strokes of paint on to my canvas with such purpose.
I am a representational artist residing in Southern B.C, Canada. I enjoy educating and exposing people to great art and great art ideas. Thanks for reading and tell a friend about me!
